The latest outbreak of measles in the U.S. a preventable disease that the Western Hemisphere eradicated decades ago thanks to vaccines has been traced to a megachurch in Texas. The church's senior pastor Terri Pearsons had previously criticized vaccines USA Today reports. The outbreak sickened 25 kids and adults. At least 12 of them weren't fully immunized. Others had no records of immunization. One ill child is 4 months old too young to have received the measles vaccine. On average among 1000 kids who contract measles one gets a serious brain infection called encephalitis and one or two kids die. After the outbreak the church offered its members free immunizations and urged the congregation to get vaccinated which sounds great. But a statement from church leaders issued last week still includes some troubling unscientific claims. For one Pearsons suggested that excessive amounts of vitamin D may bolster the body against measles. There is no evidence to support that. The Eagle Mountain International Church in Newark Texas released a statement for its members on August 15 the day after the Tarrant County Public Health Department informed the church that one of its missionaries who traveled to a country where measles is still endemic had brought the virus back to the church. In the statement Pearsons wrote things like I believe it is wrong to be against vaccinations and the disease is only shut down when all are immunized. At the same time she also supported some strange untrue ideas. In a statement about the church's measles outbreak Pearsons urged adults and kids to take three times as much vitamin D as their recommended daily allowance. The concerns we have had are primarily with very young children who have family history of autism and with bundling too many immunizations at one time she wrote. The statement suggests there's some link between vaccines and autism when there is none. It also suggests following the recommended vaccine schedule is somehow dangerous. The recommended schedule has never been linked to getting diseases later in life nor is there any evidence that getting vaccines at a young age is harmful to babies. In addition to urging them to get vaccinated Pearsons told her congregation to take excessive amounts of Vitamin D. I also strongly recommend taking vitamin D at 1000 units a day for young children and 2000 units a day for older children and adults ongoing. This is an effective immune system booster she wrote. First vitamin D does not protect against measles. Second that's about three times as much vitamin D as kids and adults need. For kids younger than 7 months 1000 international units is actually the upper recommended daily limit for vitamin D intake. And babies don't just get vitamin D from supplements. They also get some through breast milk formula and exposure to the sun so infants taking 1000 units' worth of vitamin D supplements a day could easily exceed their daily limits. (Other children's upper daily limits are higher depending on their age culminating in 4000 international units for kids and adults age nine and older.)I didn't find anything in the research literature about the infant- and kid-specific effects of ingesting too much vitamin D but here's how it impacts adults. Most studies found that adults ingesting at least 10000 international units of vitamin D a day have an increased risk symptoms such as weight loss excessive urine production heart arrhythmias and damage to the heart blood vessels and kidneys. Some studies suggest people can damage their health by regularly ingesting 5000 international units of vitamin D a day. This is not like sports or your career. You're not supposed to aim at your upper limit. Bottom line: Eagle Mountain International Church may offer some great spiritual guidance I wouldn't know but I wouldn't take my health advice from there.So...the church leaders were initially against vaccinations for dubious reasons then they changed their minds and went to the trouble of offering free vaccinations to correct their error and then suggested taking 1000 mg to 2000 mg of Vitamin D to boost the immune system in addition to vaccinations. A lot of current research indicates that Vitamin D improves immune response and nothing shows that 2000 mg is anywhere close to a toxic or unhealthy amount.So...where's the problem?I think the pastor should be prosecuted for practicing medicine without a license.Francie Derp-a-derp.Religion the original oxymoron. As is so often if not always the case with articles condemning suspicion of vaccines this engages in misrepresentation and misinterpretation. It states that measles was “eradicated” in the West. To “eradicate” a disease means to eliminate it entirely even to the point of the virus itself. But there is no evidence the virus has been destroyed in the West. It is unclear exactly what evidence the Tarrant County Health Department has that the missionary brought the measles that supposedly infected the congregation. In fact given the means of measles transmission it is ridiculously easy to stage an artificial infection. And note the article talks about infants being in danger because they don't receive vaccines for measles at such an early age. But that would mean that before the vaccination was available measles would have to have been something regularly if not universally contracted in infancy. And there are no records of that ever being the case. Indeed infants may be protected naturally from the disease. The article claims that there is no link between vaccines and autism when in reality there is no published link! With the refusal of a “journal” to publish and threats of not receiving further funding if you don't do what the New World Order demands unsurprisingly many will not push on material that proves vaccines are dangerous. An eminent demonstration of the lies spread by “science” is that I placed a comment on Bad Astronomy on Slate detailing information mentioned here and they removed it. They were not content with discussing and trying to counter it because they knew they couldn't. They use the New World Order trick of trying to keep the information from being mentioned at all.Julian there is no such thing as the new world order. Vaccines are your friends that's how we *eradicated* polio and smallpox. Fool.Self correcting problem anyway. Only the nuts will die from measles. They removed it for the same reason popsci should remove you from here. They won't because the more people that read popsci the better for popsci. There is no reason for Bad Astronomy to respond to such lunacy as you would just think they were following new world orders. Throw away your computer as it is just a science lie and by the way the internet doesn't exist. Damn almost forgot they must of made up that infant becoming ill and of course that church didn't actually help in getting vaccines. Thanks for letting me know about the new world order I would have never guessed such a thing existed if it wasn't for you.didn't read the article or any comments but if the catch-line is true......LOLSimilar happened here in the UK. There was a whole campaign saying the MMR jab was linked to Autism. Massive breakout of measles in what could have been an easily prevented occurrence. These idiots. I'd doubt they'd say the same of smallpox if it was still prevalent! Now nothing to fret concerning about earnings. Our company needs home users for their financial reporting. You have a computer and internet connection and you done. I made $3509 just for working 4 to 5 hours daily. Here is the link for more info…. w ¬w ¬w. .â¤â®n45.⠬â´ ¬Ã¢Â³Actually about 15 years ago there was a specific type of vaccine that although it was never directly proven hospitals stopped giving the vaccine due to a large coincidence of kids getting autism from it. I happen to know a person that got autism from said vaccine at the age of 8! They were completely normal prior the vaccination. That's pretty freaking scary. Now no one uses that vaccine anymore and the only trail you need to follow is what types of vaccines are now used and why the old ones were replaced. You can't hide that data. Truth is we weren't very good at making safe vaccines back in the day. However the incidence of children getting autism from that vaccine was still very small compared to the number of children who were vaccinated. People who deny that the evolution of bacteria pathogens and microbes will surpass our own immune response are sadly mistaken. They do and will. If you don't vaccinate then you put yourself at risk. A better argument is that I will wait until the technology is safer. A bad argument is the human body is capable of defending itself against anything.. Simply not true and very naive. To the defense of the religious it does appear that no man-made treatments or cures are as good as Stem Cell Therapies which replace the bodies dwindling source pluro stem cells for various cell types. Activated stem cells not plasma activated but real trophin and peptide based activation are the bees knees when it comes to health. They can fix any damage of any cell and become the damaged or missing cells themselves. So it appears that God did put the perfect medicine in our bodies after all. It still takes human ingenuity to be able to use them though. BTW big pharma is trying to stop a collapse in the industry by using the FDA to regulate the amount of time that you have to extract modify and replace stem cells in a human body. That time limit is 24 hours. By limiting the time they also limit the process by which to activate the cells. A PRP (platelet rich plasma) based activation can be done in 24 hours but only activates the cells for a limited range of cells tissue types. It's good for joints and skin mostly. All of the best techniques in activation require an additional 24 hours of time. Ironically Big Pharma is rapidly trying to get hooks into the industry and are creating new types of trophins and proteins that the industry will use for activation once the FDA lifts this ridiculous time limit. The FDA and Big Pharma are sucking each other off right now basically. Sad. You can still get the treatments done in Europe Mexico China and the Dominican. Also until the FDA approves the treatments insurance won't cover them. This leaves a $30000 - $57000 price tag on the treatments now which is of course out of the price range for most people. They process only takes 3 days though and it lasts the rest of your life. Availability is huge though and you don't have to wait more than a few weeks for the treatments...if you have the money. There is nothing that Stem Cells can't fix...including HIV. Nothing. Enjoy!!! Do not try and bend the spoon. That is impossible. Only try and realize the truth - there is no spoon.Nuts and a liar. This is why women should not be leading churches. Obviously someone is going to blame us conservative religious folk for this - but again for the slow reading liberal crowd - we don't let women lead in the church. Thus this is a modern enlightened liberal congregation of feel-good back-to-the-Earthmother vegan hippies who are not vaccinating their children with the wicked chemicals of the modern world. Conservatives are rather fond of good science and vaccines are good and proven science (we are rather glad not to have to deal with smallpox anymore).MMRs do cause Autism. As I state before I know a girl who became autistic after receiving at the age of 8. Only try and realize the truth - there is no spoon. For those of you who think that the US is the super power in health and medicince... you are sadly mistaken. We are one of the unhealthiest countries in the world. In obesity rates heart disease bowel and insulin issues we are the leader. Big Pharma the CDC and the FDA hide a lot of medical data. We may have the most advanced military and lead the world in other areas but in the area of medicine we are not the pioneers. Most of you admit to the corrupt behavior in our highest offices of government but when it comes to things like health and safety regulations you think it stops. Medical is big money. Vaccines are not always safe:The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has paid out over $2 billion in compensation to families who have been damaged by vaccines. This article does little to help the situation as this liberal media bullshit site simply spews what its given to believe. Sad. Stop eating the BS you are fed people. Research beyond the Wiki. A better America starts with more intelligent Americans. Do not try and bend the spoon. That is impossible. Only try and realize the truth - there is no spoon.troll@D49 could you provide a URL to a medical journal or something that talks about the potential dangers of vaccines? I don't think that vaccines can cause autism or similar things based on what I've read but research does dig up new stuff all the time.So far you've mentioned your personal experience and two court cases which aren't exactly medical research. If you want to prove us wrong as you say a good way to do that would be giving evidence that proves it. It's a bit hard to convince the people that you're insulting.DrChuck1 please shut up. Just click on your name and then look at your useless posts. Please everyone do it. You just simply blast other peoples posts. You're the troll and your worthless critiques of peoples posts proves it. Contribute or make better use of your time please. You will never win against me. Ever. Ever. Taking time to call me out without any proof against what I'm saying makes you pretty lame. At least I will back up my claims.Jumping-ginger I suppose that other countries awarding court cases to people who have taken the MMRs and then became autistic aren't enough proof. That they cite the very mans' who was ridiculed research to show that they were dangerous was just political mumbo jumbo. Part of the point here was that the direct medical evidence has been blocked to a large degree. This isn't just Italy mind you. Another little girl named Hannah Poling also received a winning judgement for becoming autistic after the same MMR. $1.5 million. This of course was in America. The ruling was settled out of court and then sealed. You probably never heard of the case... I wonder why? Here you go: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-20015982-10391695.htmlYou sit in the face of at least 2 major court rulings that will not show their evidence of the connection. Yet they both ruled that the evidence was there. The fact that neither case will one that was sealed show their evidence should be slightly alarming and makes my point completely. I don't need the scientific medical study showing the link. If I had it I would be either dead or a very rich man. I'm sure the number of lawsuits that would ensue would be staggering and would most likely cripple the companies that made them. No? I'll take my chances on this one ginger. To ignore the rulings the sealed evidence of the case is to be naive. The other strengthening factor here is that the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has paid out over $2 billion in compensation to families who have been damaged by vaccines. More than a few of those are MMRs. You never heard of Hannahs case... how many more have you not heard of? I also suggest reading why it was they threw out the research of Dr. Anrdrew Wakefield. I will not be getting my child an MMR. If you are so sure that its safe then I'm sure none of this will come into your mind when you get your child one either. Do not try and bend the spoon. That is impossible. Only try and realize the truth - there is no spoon. Also I don't insult people. I'm not here to fight with people. I'm here actually provide depth and context to the shallow information given on some of these articles. To learn for myself by corresponding with others. It is 90% of the time very rewarding as the interaction provides more details. I have had my mind changed on here about a subject more than once and I like that. This Church isn't a Church of Scientology they just simply are afraid of their children becoming autistic after receiving the injections. Rightfully so. Do not try and bend the spoon. That is impossible. Only try and realize the truth - there is no spoon....young Emily Moller from Houston won compensation following vaccine-related brain injury that once again involved MMR and resulted in autism. The cases follow similar successful petitions in the Italian and US courts (including Hannah Poling Bailey Banks Misty Hyatt Kienan Freeman Valentino Bocca and Julia Grimes) in which the governments conceded or the court ruled that vaccines had caused brain injury. In turn this injury led to an ASD diagnosis. MMR vaccine was the common denominator in these cases.’The report echoes the exact same sentiment that our reader conveyed †Dr. Wakefield has had his career and reputation destroyed over the past 15 years but has just been vindicated. The account reports ‘While repeated studies from around the world confirmed Wakefield’s bowel disease in autistic children and his position that safety studies of the MMR are inadequate Dr. Wakefield ’s career has been destroyed by false allegations. Despite this he continues to work tirelessly to help solve the autism catastrophe.’How many more cases do you need? How many more cases that award in favor of the victim with hidden evidence of the link. Those are a lot of smoking guns. And the governments stance on it: -We agree that your child got autism after the vaccinations but we won't go on record as saying that. Here is 1.5 million. Paleez. We are lied to. Also here is another vaccine cover up link magically missing: http://www.whydontyoutrythis.com/2013/07/cdc-admits-98-million-americans-received-polio-vaccine-in-an-8-year-span-when-it-was-contaminated-with-cancer-virus.htmlKnowing now what we know about vaccines and medicine you think our previous attempts at vaccines are full proof? You don't think that the government and big pharma cover up evidence of those early mistakes? To all who think that you have been given a straight answer to these issues you are being fooled. We all know that we didn't know enough back then to have foreseen these issues with vaccines. However instead of taking responsibility for them which would cost billions we instead allow the federal court system and pharma to hide the evidence of their damage. This is not just limited to MMRs either. For those of you who received Polop Vaccines... ouch. The CDC is not some trustworthy source of information either. Taking their word for it is horribly bad as well. They cover up just as much. Do not try and bend the spoon. That is impossible. However this is real evidence of the effects of vaccines. Don't believe that something is safe just because the CDC says so. Definitely do not believe research that is done or paid for by the same company that makes the vaccines. You may have an underlying condition that when combined with a vaccine will make you sick. You may possible develop nervous system disorders or you may die. Your children may develop problems if they take the vaccines. That doesn't mean that you won't gauge the risk and do it anyways but at least you acknowledge that there is one. They are not SAFE. Do your research. I go through other peoples post history and see nothing like that chuck. Sorry but you have an issue with everyones posts. I know you're emberrassed. It's ok. Do not try and bend the spoon. That is impossible. Only try and realize the truth - there is no spoon.'The outbreak sickened 25 kids and adults. At least 12 of them weren't fully immunized. Others had no records of immunization.' Not exactly sure what that statement means as it has some ambiguity but it is another example of vaccine failure in any case. The germ theory needs to be rethought. Or expounded upon. I am getting convinced of it. It seems to me disease invites germs germs don't spark disease (most of the time). When thought of in this manner it explains why some people get deathly ill from a microbe and others don't show a single symptom (so-called 'carriers'). It also explains why vaccinated people still get the exact diseases they were vaccinated for. It's about the immune system. When it works like it evolved to the endless variety of potential pathogens rarely cause problems. So if a child has a healthy immune system and gets vaccinated is it the innate system providing protection or the vaccine (vaccine supporters assume the vaccine)? And how would one ever know? Well supposed adequate antibody titer levels are the measure but these have repeatedly failed to correlate with protection (meaning blood work on the few occasions it is checked will reveal antibodies from the vaccine present but the person still 'caught' the disease). In vaccinated people that still get sick that would imply an immune issue that failed to ward off a pathogen early and thus major symptoms came forth even with vaccine antibodies present. And this happens every time an 'outbreak' occurs somewhere (just like the above example). Flu pertussis measles you name it many of the infected (if not most) are fully or partially vaccinated people. What else would explain why vaccinations fail? If they worked they would work. If you dig through old writings from the last couple centuries many physicians found evidence supporting the idea of immune issues involved with smallpox. The smallpox vaccine had critics who discovered from their field work that the vaccine didn't work and that the sick ones very often were already sickly which to the physicians made it clear smallpox was likely related to nutritional deficiencies (smallpox outbreaks would often follow poor growing seasons which invariably led to malnutrition for many...lack of fruits and vegetables and thus a lack of vitamin C in particular was thought the main factor). But these physicians were ignored as most of their peers were already totally inculcated in the belief in vaccines. And nothing has changed in over a century. There is still not a single control study to settle the issue (control studies for vaccines are compared not against a saline placebo but against an already 'established as safe' vaccine...it would be like comparing ibuprofin to naproxen instead of to a sugar pill and then concluding it's safe since the side effects are no worse...how is that hard science?...and as expected the side effects are the usual quite serious list that you see in the package inserts). The claim of breach of ethics for withholding vaccines is not a valid argument as drug companies have no problem testing every other drug on participants (which DO result in death sometimes). But that is their cover to avoid a real experiment (how about at least do a control study but lose the double-blind since volunteers could surely be found?). It's hypocritical for the vaccine pushers to claim vaccines as hard science when that science has never actually been done and then endlessly demand every critic to prove everything. How can we if no one ever does a controlled study? It's a catch-22! So then the best we can do is look at the data and the correlations and read through the anecdotal evidence from the past and present. If you look through the graphs on the dissolvingillusions website you will see that mortality from many diseases had dropped considerably well before vaccines came to market. That alone should give pause to vaccine supporters (yet it never seems to oddly enough and instead draws attacks claiming fake data and conspiracy nut and so forth). This data supports the idea that people's immune systems were better able to handle pathogens most likely from improved nutrition (less exposure could be another factor but since populations were increasing over time it seems unlikely human contact would have gone down somehow; if anything it would have increased). Plus morbidity didn't always decrease but deaths did so that would indicate exposure was still high but immunity was better. What else are we to make from the data? How do vaccine supporters explain the death decreases before vaccines and the clear downward trend every disease was displaying (Scarlet Fever is interesting as it followed a similar progression down but there never was a vaccine)? Improved medical care? Perhaps but IV's were not widely in use until the 1950's and before that time hospitals were not exactly known for the life saving things we are familiar with today. Antibiotics also came into play in the 1940's but that only treats bacterial critters and not viruses. So I don't suspect improved medical treatment can explain the drop in mortality of all these disea
